NKISI Holdings Uganda Ltd is a subsidiary focused on project development in Uganda, operating under NKISI Holdings Ltd, a UK-based firm specializing in infrastructure, energy, and technology. The company aims to foster economic growth by enhancing access to reliable energy, boosting industrial productivity, and developing scalable infrastructure across Uganda and potentially other African markets. Currently, NKISI Uganda is in the early stages of project development, focusing on assessing energy projects, understanding client needs, securing commercial partnerships, conducting site feasibility studies, and working with relevant stakeholders.

Role Overview

The Technical Lead will spearhead the technical activities related to early-stage project development in Uganda. The role includes evaluating potential industrial sites, analyzing energy usage, coordinating technical studies, assessing the viability of projects, translating engineering insights into actionable recommendations, and supporting the leadership team. Initial responsibilities center around project origination, technical due diligence, and regulatory preparation, with progression toward broader engineering leadership as projects advance to construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Engage with industrial clients to assess energy needs, review consumption data and site conditions, and carry out preliminary energy audits and evaluations.
• Support identification and screening of potential renewable energy and infrastructure sites, conducting assessments of solar resources, land suitability, grid proximity, environmental factors, and logistical considerations.
• Coordinate and oversee feasibility studies by defining information requirements, liaising with technical consultants, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring alignment with commercial and financing objectives.
• Develop and review preliminary engineering designs including system concepts, equipment sizing, energy yield estimates, grid connection plans, and site layouts.
• Manage technical consultants and contractors, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and resolving technical queries or issues.
• Collaborate with legal and regulatory teams to support permitting processes, maintaining compliance with relevant authorities and standards.
• Prepare preliminary cost estimates and budgets, develop equipment schedules, participate in value engineering, and monitor financial implications of technical assumptions.
• Establish and maintain a robust digital repository of technical documentation, implement templates and procedures for assessments, reviews, risk registers, and project tracking.
• Identify and manage technical risks across projects, recommending mitigation actions and escalating critical issues.

Initial Priorities

• Within the first 30 days, review existing project information and define technical data gaps, establish document structures and standard procedures, and develop a 90-day technical action plan.
• By day 60, complete preliminary reviews, set up multi-project tracking, create technical risk registers, and support client engagement documentation.
• By day 90, implement governance and document control systems, finalize initial system concepts and regulatory pathways, and present a 12-month development roadmap.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, energy, renewable energy or related engineering discipline is essential.

Additional Information

The role requires working on-site in Kampala, Uganda, with some travel to client and project locations expected. The appointment may be full-time or fractional based on candidate suitability. The Technical Lead will report directly to the CEO and contribute significantly to establishing NKISI’s Uganda technical operations foundation.
