Job description

Overview

Join a global engineering leader focused on mining and metals projects across the UK and Ireland. This remote role involves leading technical delivery and business development within mine waste management, contributing to significant domestic and international projects alongside a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead consulting efforts on mine waste projects, including design and inspection of waste storage facilities, tailings deposit construction, stability and seepage analyses, and closure design.
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and modelers from conceptual to detailed design phases.
  • Provide expert technical input on tailings management, water impoundments, waste rock dump design, soil mechanics, soil improvement techniques, geosynthetics engineering, and related civil engineering tasks globally.
  • Oversee and contribute to design and assessment of tailings, water storage, waste Rock dumps, and integrated waste facilities across all project phases including operational and closure stages.
  • Support project managers by independently managing project involvement regarding time, budget, and quality control.
  • Mentor and lead a team of professionals in the Mine Waste group fostering technical excellence, career growth, and commercial understanding.
  • Prepare technical documentation including reports, drawings, specifications, bills of quantities, and cost estimates.
  • Provide technical guidance and supervision to junior and mid-level staff.
  • Contribute to strategic development within the team and participate in global technical practice groups to raise technical standards and client visibility.
  • Opportunity to travel within Ireland and internationally to support clients and construction of designs; travel may involve overnight stays based on project needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships and represent the company effectively onsite.
  • Prepare project proposals and technical reports adhering to company values and code of conduct.
  • Maintain a safety-first mindset, promote health and safety culture, and comply with all health and safety policies.
  • Ensure adherence to equality policies and ethical standards at all times.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven technical leadership, collaboration, and delivery skills.
  • Extensive experience in mine waste and tailings management.
  • Strong commitment to client service both internally and externally.
  • Successful track record leading large multidisciplinary projects, delivering on time and within budget.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical, business, and strategic matters.
  • Degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or engineering geology with a strong foundation in soil mechanics.
  • Familiarity with national and international design standards and regulations.
  • Relevant mining and geotechnical experience related to mine waste disposal and facilities.
  • Ability to interpret, monitor, and apply various tools for geotechnical structure design and operational support.
  • Effective team management and collaboration skills.
  • Chartered professional status with a relevant institution.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the UK, Ireland, and internationally, including remote locations as required.
