System Specialist - Mainframe Backup Systems

Overview

This role seeks a System Specialist experienced in mainframe backup systems to manage and support various critical system components at our Singapore location. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of z/OS operating systems and backup technologies, participate in system administration, performance monitoring, and collaborate closely with vendors to resolve technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and maintain backup systems including CA-1, z/OS operating system, JCL, tape management systems, and automated tape libraries.
• Manage backup hardware such as Data Domain, ECS, Hitachi CGX, and tape libraries.
• Perform security patching, system hardening, and software upgrades as needed.
• Install and configure backup-related software solutions.
• Monitor system performance and engage in capacity planning to meet backup storage requirements.
• Collaborate with hardware and software vendors to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
• Review system and hardware logs to ensure proper operation and proactively identify problems.
• Participate in technical exercises and projects when required.

Qualifications and Requirements

• At least 3 to 5 years of experience working with mainframe backup systems, particularly CA-1.
• Strong proficiency in z/OS operating system and Job Control Language (JCL).
• Solid understanding of mainframe storage concepts, including DASD, tape, and virtual storage.
• Experience managing tape management systems and automated tape libraries.
• Preferably a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with related hardware and software technologies.
• Willingness to work beyond regular business hours, including weekends when necessary.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient command of both written and spoken English is essential.
