Role Overview

This fractional contract position is remote and focuses on designing the software interfaces, user flows, and interaction patterns for client prototypes and internal tools. Key tasks include conducting lightweight user research such as stakeholder and user interviews and usability walkthroughs, synthesizing insights, creating UX flows and UI designs for web applications and proofs of concept, maintaining accessible design systems for engineering use, and prototyping primarily in Figma. The designer also shapes interaction models for AI-enabled product experiences including conversational interfaces and agent-assisted workflows. Collaboration with MJH engineers ensures design specifications translate seamlessly into Next.js and React implementations. Engagement typically requires 5-10 hours per week depending on project needs.

Qualifications

• 5 to 7 years of experience in software, product, or UX/UI design encompassing hands-on user research and design practice.
• Proficiency in planning and executing user interviews and usability sessions, with strong ability to analyze and convert findings into design rationale.
• A robust portfolio demonstrating shipped web applications, design systems, and complex workflow designs.
• Expertise in Figma including use of components, variables, and interactive prototypes, with ability to collaborate effectively with React engineers.
• Understanding of front-end limitations ensuring designs are implementable; experience designing AI-driven interactions is a significant plus.
• Prior experience designing for enterprise users prioritizing clarity and simplicity over embellishment.
• Ability to operate independently, take direction efficiently, and deliver consistently in a remote work setup.
• Background in consulting, agency, or B2B SaaS environments is advantageous.
• A degree related to design or equivalent experience; master’s level education is preferred but not mandatory.

Engagement Details

This role is a 1099 contract on the firm's delivery bench, involving no fixed salary or retainer. Compensation is a share of revenue from engagements, divided among the delivery team, with additional bonuses for client referrals. This model is designed for experienced independent professionals seeking senior-level client projects with revenue-sharing potential, and is not suitable for those requiring stable monthly income currently.

Hiring Procedure

The selection process starts with an introductory call with the founder, followed by a case discussion, signing of agreement and NDA, then security onboarding through MJH’s portal. Candidates must complete onboarding before starting client work.
