Job description

Position Summary

The Shift Engineer is responsible for addressing guest repair requests promptly and effectively. This role involves communication with guests to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues, performing preventative maintenance on kitchen and mechanical equipment including cleaning and lubrication, as well as inspecting tools and machinery visually. The engineer will operate equipment such as tools and radios, manage utility shut-off valves, and maintain inventory levels by requisitioning parts as needed. Daily activities and issues must be communicated timely to other shifts using approved programs.

The engineer must demonstrate foundational knowledge or the ability to quickly learn in areas including air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical and mechanical systems, plumbing, pneumatics, electronics, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building maintenance. Tasks include surface preparation, painting, drywall and wood repair, light bulb and air conditioning filter replacement, equipment troubleshooting, plumbing repairs like unblocking drains and plunging toilets, and electrical tasks such as replacing switches and outlets.

Additional responsibilities involve programming TVs, inventory management related to housekeeping and engineering, adhering to lockout/tagout safety protocols, repairing internal and external landscaping and sprinkler systems, and entering information into computer systems.

Safety and Conduct

The engineer must follow all company safety and security policies, report hazards and accidents, complete required training, and handle flammable materials carefully. They should maintain a professional appearance, protect proprietary information and company assets, greet guests warmly, anticipate their needs, assist guests with disabilities, and uphold service quality standards. Positive team relationships and effective communication with colleagues are also essential.

Physical demands include moving and lifting items up to 50 pounds unassisted, using stairs, ramps, or ladders, and performing tasks involving bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Experience in general maintenance, including surface preparation and painting.
  • Prior hotel engineering or maintenance experience is advantageous.
  • No supervisory experience required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid driver's license.
