Job Overview
The Senior Mechanical Commissioning Superintendent will spearhead and oversee all mechanical commissioning efforts involving installation, testing, and system readiness for mechanical, marine, propulsion, and drilling systems on offshore jack-up rigs. This role ensures strict adherence to project specifications, classification society requirements (ABS/DNV), and offshore regulations to deliver a safe, fully operational rig ready for handover and deployment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead development of commissioning procedures, test packages, and checklists to ensure safe and structured execution for mechanical, marine, and utility systems.
- Review technical designs such as P&IDs, general arrangements, system boundaries, and vendor documentation to verify technical correctness and readiness for commissioning.
- Manage the commissioning phases from pre-commissioning through functional testing to final acceptance, ensuring systems operate fully.
- Coordinate and execute FAT, HAT, and SAT for mechanical, marine, and drilling equipment verifying compliance with project and classification rules.
- Ensure all commissioning complies with ABS, DNV, SOLAS, API, and applicable offshore standards maintaining certification status.
- Lead commissioning of drilling systems including top drives, rotary tables, mud pumps, solids control, and well-control mechanical components.
- Commission marine and jacking systems such as jacking units, preload, ballast/bilge, seawater cooling, fire main, deluge, and HVAC components.
- Oversee commissioning of power and utilities including diesel generators, compressors, fuel and lube oil systems, cooling water, cranes, winches, and safety-critical equipment.
- Facilitate coordination between construction, engineering disciplines (electrical, instrumentation, marine, drilling) to ensure smooth integration.
- Manage OEM vendor teams during installation, testing, troubleshooting and performance assessments to maintain schedule progress.
- Implement work permits, job safety analysis, simultaneous operations procedures, and lockout/tagout protocols ensuring safe mechanical commissioning tasks.
- Generate and manage punch lists for mechanical equipment, ensuring completion and turnover readiness.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and rotating machinery faults with recommendations for corrective actions.
- Prepare, update, and control commissioning documentation including inspection test records, reports, redline drawings, and turnover packages to support audits and final approvals.
- Support rig startup, performance trials, and initial well operations delivering a fully commissioned jack-up rig prepared for offshore deployment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- At least 12 years of experience in mechanical commissioning of new build offshore jack-up rigs.
- Strong expertise with jack-up rig equipment such as jacking units, preload and marine systems, and drilling equipment.
- Hands-on experience with OEM equipment packages from manufacturers such as Cameron, NOV, MH Wirth, GE, Bauer, LeTourneau.
- Knowledge of commissioning management systems like Omega 365 PIMS and CMS (PIMS, Omega) beneficial.
- Offshore safety certifications (BOSIET, HUET, OGUK, GWO) are advantageous.
- Proven leadership capability, safety awareness and experience coordinating cross-disciplinary teams offshore.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.
