Role Summary
The Senior Internal Control Officer supports business leadership by reviewing and evaluating the bank's operations to ensure strict compliance with regulatory frameworks and internal standards. This position constitutes a key function in the bank's second line of defense, conducting regular compliance and internal control assessments according to an approved review plan. The officer reports on compliance issues, breaches identified, and corrective measures applied.
Reporting to the Head of Compliance, the officer designs the scope of internal control checks annually, performs audits, and ensures follow-up on corrective actions. They promote strong compliance culture branch-wide and proactively handle risk identification and assessment related to regulatory and statutory mandates.
Key Responsibilities
- Track management responses to inspections by Central Bank authorities ensuring recommendations are implemented effectively.
- Ensure the business and support units comply with local Central Bank and legal regulations as well as other statutory obligations.
- Supervise the accuracy and standards of accounting and financial data, including proper record retention and disclosure.
- Enhance enterprise-wide risk management by establishing and validating effective control procedures throughout the branch.
- Review revisions or new introductions to policies and procedures from an internal control perspective.
- Develop and execute the annual internal control assessment plan.
Qualifications and Experience
- University degree in a relevant discipline, preferably business-related, coupled with 4 to 6 years of experience in internal control, audit, or compliance within banking or financial regulatory institutions.
- Professional certifications such as CCO, CPA, CIA, or CA are a strong advantage.
Required Skills
- Proficient written and spoken English communication skills, including report drafting; fluency in Arabic or French is a plus based on location.
- Solid understanding of banking operations and IT systems.
- Knowledge of current financial regulations and instruments.
- Familiarity with bank accounting norms and banking product offerings.
- Awareness of regulatory compliance and tax regulations relevant to banking.
