About the Role

This position focuses on risk-based internal audit work for UCC’s EPC and capital project portfolio. It suits someone with hands-on engineering and project controls experience who has worked directly with schedules, cost reports, and variation logs, and is now ready to use that background in an independent assurance role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out risk-focused internal audit assignments across UCC’s EPC and capital projects, including joint venture structures, in accordance with the IIA’s International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF).
  • Examine and validate project controls covering cost engineering, planning and scheduling, progress measurement, earned value, change and variation order handling, and contractor/subcontractor performance.
  • Assess whether project cost reports, forecasts, and cost-to-complete estimates are supported by the underlying project data.
  • Evaluate schedule management practices such as critical path logic, delay analysis, and extension of time claim handling.
  • Review claims, variation orders, and contractual entitlement positions to ensure they are complete, accurate, and properly supported.
  • Create and apply Risk Control Matrices (RCMs), clearly separating design effectiveness from operating effectiveness for project controls processes.
  • Conduct fieldwork, collect audit evidence, and prepare workpapers to a level that supports well-founded audit conclusions.
  • Write audit observations and help prepare audit reports, converting technical project matters into clear risk and control language for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work with project directors, project controls managers, and commercial/contracts teams to discuss findings and agree corrective actions.
  • Monitor open audit issues through to closure and remediation.
  • Assist the Internal Audit Manager/Lead with planning and scoping engagements that need technical project controls expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification such as CIA, CCP, PMP, or an equivalent qualification is preferred or may be underway.
  • At least 6 to 8 years of experience in project controls functions such as cost engineering, planning/scheduling, or contracts within EPC, construction, or infrastructure projects.
  • Previous exposure to internal audit, risk, or assurance work is beneficial, though not essential if project controls experience is strong.
  • Sound understanding of EPC contract structures, claims, variation orders, and joint venture project arrangements.
  • Strong analytical ability to review cost and schedule information and identify control gaps or weaknesses.
  • Clear writing and communication skills with the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with risk-based audit approaches aligned to the IIA IPPF is a plus.

Additional Information

This role is based in Doha, Qatar and is a full-time onsite position. No salary, stipend, number of vacancies, start date, or application deadline was specified in the source.
