Senior Data Governance Analyst

Overview

This technical position is focused on developing and implementing Data Governance controls using North Oil Company's data governance frameworks across data repositories and platforms. The role is pivotal in enhancing data management, quality, and accountability, thereby elevating the organization's data governance maturity. It ensures that data utilized in digital use cases and operational applications is reliable and accurate, facilitating informed business decisions and operational efficiency.

Scope and Interaction

• Manage and govern structured and unstructured data spanning over 100 data domains, 650 data families, and 100 diverse data sources and solutions.
• Oversee four primary solutions and coordinate with two external service contracts to maintain data governance standards.
• Collaborate closely with the digital team to govern data used in digital initiatives, ensuring data integrity for decision-making.
• Engage with data stakeholders including Data Owners, Data Stewards, and Data Custodians across 16 departments to capture requirements and enhance data governance tools.
• Coordinate with information security teams to implement data security classifications and controls.
• Promote organizational data literacy and provide end-user training to foster data governance awareness.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and sustain data governance solutions including data quality, cataloging, and metadata management.
• Execute data governance practices specifically for AI, digital use cases, data platforms, and corporate solutions.
• Assess and apply governance frameworks to critical data elements and externally hosted data including cloud environments.
• Review vendor submissions and communicate required corrections.
• Drive upskilling initiatives to enhance organizational data proficiency.
• Define, apply, and monitor data governance workflows and rules on platforms such as Informatica, supporting AI and analytics initiatives.
• Develop AI governance capabilities including access controls, audit trails, and compliance monitoring for data quality, model performance, and risk management.
• Implement data governance criteria for business-key data elements and ensure data migration integrity to cloud platforms.
• Perform metadata extraction, profiling, and management to support data governance tools and troubleshoot performance.
• Analyze business data, design data quality rules, and generate data quality scorecards for ongoing review.
• Identify trusted data sources and assign ownership and stewardship for key data elements, defining business rules and terms accordingly.
• Maintain metadata repositories, including onboarding technical and business metadata, and manage data lineage and relationships.
• Utilize profiling tools (e.g., Informatica EDC/IDQ) to identify automation opportunities and optimize data quality and reliability.
• Establish metadata catalogs, dictionaries, and glossaries rooted in Oil & Gas industry standards to improve data accessibility.
• Maintain dashboards and APIs to monitor and report on data governance maturity KPIs across departments.
• Manage data certification tools evidencing precise and complete data migrations.
• Recommend innovative approaches and tools to advance data operations and governance maturity.
• Implement enterprise-wide metadata standards and coordinate with architects to embed governance principles across systems.
• Lead data quality improvement initiatives targeting key data elements.
• Participate actively in stakeholder meetings to gather business requirements, propose solutions, and support deployment and training.
• Evaluate industry-leading tools, conduct proofs of concept, and deliver rapid, value-oriented solutions.

Educational Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Business or a related discipline from an accredited university is required.

Experience and Skills

• At least 10 years of experience in data management or governance, ideally within upstream oil and gas operations.
• Over eight years of hands-on experience in data governance projects utilizing tools such as Informatica.
• Extensive familiarity with petroleum operations data and relevant data sources.
• Comprehensive understanding of data governance concepts including data cataloging, profiling, ownership, stewardship, and data quality management.
• Professional certifications and strong prowess in Informatica governance tools including Axon, IDQ, and EDC.
• Advanced technical expertise in designing governance workflows, policies, instruments, metrics, and metadata standards.
• Proficiency with integrating Informatica tools and managing metadata extraction and data lineage.
• Advanced skills in implementing data quality rules within Informatica DQ and maintaining data governance tool environments.
• Competency in database systems and technologies including SQL, NoSQL, and Oracle.
• Experience in master and reference data management using Informatica MDM.
• Ability to swiftly resolve technical challenges and foster an environment conducive to project success.
• Knowledge of data models, data architecture, and integration patterns.
• Experience working in Agile settings and an eagerness to continuously learn emerging technologies.
