Job description

Role Overview

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is seeking a committed Reporter to join the ABC North Coast team located in Lismore, New South Wales. Reporting directly to the Editor, you will be responsible for producing original and engaging news content across digital, audio, and video mediums. This role offers the opportunity to create impactful stories for local and national audiences while actively connecting with the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research and produce high-quality news stories suitable for multiple platforms including digital, audio, and video.
  • Present live news bulletins, conduct interviews, and deliver comprehensive packages and breaking news coverage as necessary.
  • Develop and pitch digital-first stories aimed at maximizing audience engagement and reach.
  • Establish and sustain strong relationships within the local community to uncover significant and relevant news stories.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across ABC to share resources and enhance wider news coverage.
  • Provide critical support during local emergency reporting and respond swiftly and effectively to significant news events.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience in journalism with demonstrated skills in reporting, researching, and interviewing.
  • Strong editorial judgement complemented by capabilities in presenting live broadcasts and working effectively in breaking news environments.
  • Possession of a valid and current driver’s license.

  • Competitive salary range from $84,000 to $103,000 annually, plus 15.4% ABC nominated superannuation.
