Role Overview

The Recycling Centre Assistant will collaborate closely with the Recycling Centre Manager and Corps Officers to manage day-to-day operations at the Salvos Container Recycling centre in Bundamba. This position emphasizes delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring smooth, effective recycling centre workflows that align with The Salvation Army’s values.

Core Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily operational tasks to ensure efficient functioning of the Bundamba recycling centre.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures, maintain cleanliness, organize and move crates via forklift, and drive the automatic Pantech truck as necessary.
  • Provide courteous, supportive, and approachable service to all customers.
  • Accurately count and sort recyclable containers, preparing them properly for pickup by third parties.
  • Keep the retail area clean, safe, and well-maintained.
  • Operate the cash register, complete financial reconciliations, and manage cash according to The Salvation Army policies.
  • Follow all centre-related processes, guidelines, and safety protocols.
  • Undertake other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience delivering customer service in a retail setting, with strong teamwork skills.
  • Previous experience in recycling or transportation sectors is advantageous.

  • Holding an unrestricted C Class Driver’s Licence is preferred.
