Role Summary
Airswift is looking for a Mechanical QA/QC Engineer to support a major oil and gas project in Qatar. The position sits within a global workforce solutions business that supports energy, process, and infrastructure projects across many countries.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or an equivalent qualification, from a recognized university is required.
- The candidate must hold IRCA-certified QMS Lead Auditor credentials.
- Certifications in welding inspection (CSWIP 3.1 / AWS-CWI), painting inspection (BGAS Grade-2 / NACE Level 2), and NDT Level 2 in RT, MT, UT, and PT (ASNT/ACCP) are mandatory; equivalent international certifications are also acceptable.
- Additional qualifications such as IIW Welding Engineer, NDT Level 3, or advanced NDT certifications including PAUT, TOFD, and Auto UT will be considered an advantage.
- Membership or affiliation with recognized professional bodies such as ASNT, AWS, TWI, NACE, ASQ-CMQ&OE, MCQI-CQP, or similar organizations is preferred.
Experience and Technical Background
- At least 15 years of experience is needed in the construction of major greenfield or brownfield process plants in the oil and gas sector, including large-scale solar photovoltaic projects.
- The role requires prior work with major EPIC contractors or end users in a comparable position, with responsibility for quality oversight of piping and mechanical construction and commissioning work.
- Strong working knowledge of QA/QC practices, acceptance criteria, and testing requirements for piping systems and rotating/static equipment is essential.
- Deep familiarity with relevant international codes and standards such as ASME, TEMA, ASTM, API, ISO, AWS, BS EN, NACE, IOGP, Shell DEP, and MESC specifications is expected.
- The candidate should be capable of handling complex QA/QC issues, including disagreements arising from differing interpretations of project requirements and scope.
- Experience in managing inspection teams, monitoring KPIs, and coordinating discipline-level QA/QC activities is required.
- Exposure to quality surveillance, completion management systems, inspection and test records, technical integrity verification, flawless project delivery, and project quality health checks is important.
- Experience in audits, pre-qualification checks, quality compliance reviews, and quality walkdowns is expected.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review contractor-submitted QA/QC documentation such as ITPs, QCPs, welding, NDT, HT, painting, and other test procedures, as well as MARs, in line with the construction schedule.
- Support the functional supervisor in reviewing and approving relevant QMS, engineering, and procurement documents, and help resolve discipline issues escalated to project management.
- Verify that project QA/QC requirements are implemented at site and at supplier or subcontractor facilities in accordance with project specifications and technical requirements.
- Lead or participate in pre-activity review meetings, quality walkdowns, and weekly QA/QC meetings.
- Carry out surveillance of structural, piping, pipeline, fabrication, erection, equipment installation, surface preparation, and painting activities on site and off site.
- Identify non-conformances and guide contractors on correction, corrective action, and preventive action measures.
- Raise or ensure the raising of NCRs for repeated issues and track root cause analysis, corrective measures, preventive actions, and final closure.
- Monitor the collection and traceability of material test certificates and construction records.
- Check that preservation systems are implemented properly.
- Confirm that IMTE registers are maintained and updated regularly, and that calibration records are kept current.
- Ensure the contractor has suitable systems and databases to track inspection and test status during prefabrication, erection, testing, and data analysis.
- Track KPIs, special processes, and personnel performance.
- Join project QHSE audits and vendor, supplier, and subcontractor pre-qualification audits, and perform compliance checks at ITP, QCP, method statement, process, and activity level.
- Monitor contractor, subcontractor, third-party inspectors, engineers, and subordinate staff performance, and provide guidance and support to the functional supervisor.
- Apply and enforce the company’s quality management system requirements relevant to the role.
- Be prepared to work on construction sites and in active weather conditions for at least half of the working time.
- Protect personal safety and the safety of others potentially affected by company operations.
Work Conditions
This is an onsite contract position based in Doha, Qatar. The role involves significant exposure to construction-site environments and prevailing climatic conditions.
