About the Role

As a Property Assessor at Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities, you will play an essential role in delivering warm, dry, and safe housing across New Zealand. Reporting to the Team Leader - Property Assessment, you will independently conduct residential property evaluations, identify condition-related concerns, perform minor maintenance tasks such as servicing heat pumps, and ensure compliance with health, safety, and building code regulations. This is a practical and hands-on job that involves managing your own daily schedule and interacting directly with tenants in their homes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough assessments of residential properties to ensure health, safety, and building code standards are met.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Preferably hold a National Certificate (Level 4) in building or design, or possess substantial experience in building maintenance.
  • Diploma (Level 6) in Building Control Surveying or recognized qualifications in building design or construction (such as Advanced Trade Certificate, NZCB, or NZCD) are advantageous.
  • At least two years of practical experience in building construction, maintenance, or inspection roles.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills with a friendly, calming approach when working in tenants' homes.
  • Solid technical knowledge and application within the building sector.
  • Good understanding and application of relevant building legislation.
  • Experience collaborating with iwi and Māori organizations at regional or national levels.
  • Possess a current, full, and clean New Zealand Driver's Licence.
