Overview

This full-time role is based in Dublin with a fixed-term contract of two years. The main objective is to work collaboratively within a team to offer a supportive, welcoming environment through a Coffee Shop that assists single adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. The position promotes social inclusion by providing access to food, shelter, advice, and information services, empowering customers to reach appropriate support.

Role Responsibilities

  • Align all activities with the strategic goals of the organisation.
  • Comply fully with Focus Ireland's policies and procedures, including those specific to the Coffee Shop.
  • Deliver services following the Focus Ireland model and established best practices.
  • Monitor and report any health, safety, or welfare concerns at the workplace to the appropriate personnel.
  • Operate on-site at the Coffee Shop, ensuring adherence to all relevant organisational policies.
  • Work a flexible roster covering seven days to meet service needs.
  • Complete daily assigned tasks and roles efficiently within the Coffee Shop.
  • Engage customers continuously to facilitate their participation in service activities.
  • Create and maintain a safe environment by minimizing incidents and managing challenging behaviour using established policies.
  • Respond appropriately to customer behaviour, handle emergencies per guidelines, and document incidents for team communication.
  • Contribute to maintaining cleanliness and daily operational upkeep of the service area.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date records including contact logs, daily notes, incident reports, and child protection documentation.
  • Support and guide new staff members to foster excellent practice standards.
  • Provide monthly activity reports as requested by management.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external agencies related to homeless services.
  • Participate in mandatory meetings, team handovers, and training sessions.
  • Attend and actively engage in regular supervision with the line manager.
  • Work proactively with the line manager to develop and enhance the effectiveness of the role.
  • Perform any additional reasonable duties assigned in consultation with management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A third-level degree in social care or related fields such as youth work, social studies, addiction, psychology, or CORU registration as a Social Care Worker.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience working in social care with vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals.
  • Proven ability to support people exhibiting high-risk and challenging behaviours.
  • Understanding of issues affecting individuals without stable housing and their physical, emotional, and psychological development.
  • Experience working effectively within a team environment with common objectives.
  • Knowledge of homeless sector services is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with child protection concerns and appropriate response protocols is desirable.
