Job description
Overview
An established accountancy firm in Reading is seeking an experienced and highly organised Payroll Supervisor to independently manage comprehensive payroll services. The role involves handling approximately 70 to 80 client payrolls, ensuring timely and precise outcomes along with excellent client communication.
Responsibilities
- Oversee complete payroll processing for around 80 monthly, fortnightly, and weekly payrolls from varied clients.
- Ensure accuracy and punctuality in payroll execution complying with statutory deadlines.
- Administer statutory requirements such as PAYE, National Insurance, SSP, SMP, SPP, student loans, and Auto-Enrolment pensions.
- Maintain and regularly update payroll records in line with HMRC and GDPR regulations.
- Submit Real Time Information (RTI) reports to HMRC as required.
- Manage workplace pension schemes including enrolments, assessments, contributions, and liaison with pension providers.
- Serve as the primary contact for payroll issues, addressing queries from clients, employees, HMRC, and pension administrators.
- Perform reconciliations of payroll reports and generate payslips, journals, summaries, and annual documentation such as P60s and P11Ds.
- Stay informed about updates to payroll legislation and industry best practices.
- Identify and implement improvements to payroll processes and operational efficiencies.
Requirements
- Substantial experience managing sole-charge payroll operations, preferably within an accountancy practice or bureau setting.
- Proven ability to independently administer high-volume, multi-frequency payrolls.
- Comprehensive knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC procedures, and Auto-Enrolment regulations.
- Proficiency with payroll software such as BrightPay, Sage, Xero Payroll, or equivalents.
- Exceptional numerical precision and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills enabling effective client relationship management.
- Strong organisational skills to juggle multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Maintaining confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive payroll data.
