Job Overview

The position is for a full-time Painting Trades Worker role with a salary around $80,000 annually, dependent on experience, including superannuation.

Key Responsibilities

• Apply various finishes such as paint, stain, varnish, enamel using brushes, rollers, or spray guns.
• Prepare new surfaces with primers or sealers, including bare wood and metal, before finishing.
• Estimate material quantities and costs by measuring surfaces or reviewing work orders.
• Protect adjacent surfaces by applying drop cloths, masking tape, and paper during painting.
• Fill cracks, holes, and joints using caulk, putty, plaster with appropriate tools.
• Mix and blend paints and stains to achieve desired colours and consistencies using additives.
• Remove old paint and wallpaper to clean surfaces prior to refinishing.
• Polish finished coats to achieve specific surface finishes.
• Interpret work orders and guidance from supervisors or clients to fulfill requirements.
• Apply specialized coatings like hot plastics or pitch using brush or spray techniques.
• Employ decorative finishing methods such as sponging, ragging, layering, and faux finishes.
• Waterproof structures using membranes and caulking materials.
• Maintain accurate records related to job progress and materials.
• Adhere to safety and protection protocols at all times.
• Clean up worksites post-job and ensure tools and equipment are properly stored.
• Organize scaffolding and ladders to work safely at elevated heights.
• Wash surfaces using mildew removers before painting.
• Apply wallpaper fabrics as per job requirements.
• Estimate job costs and negotiate pricing with clients.

Candidate Requirements

• Certificate III in Painting or equivalent AQF qualification.
• Demonstrated experience and skills to competently perform all painting duties listed.
• Minimum one year of practical experience in commercial and residential painting in professional environments.
• At least one year working with high-performance and protective coating systems.
• Proficiency in diverse painting techniques including faux finishes, marbling, wood graining, and fresco styles.
• Experienced in surface preparation methods such as chemical stripping, abrasive blasting, and power washing over one year.
• Familiarity with specialized materials like waterproof membranes and epoxy flooring systems with at least one year experience.
• Valid construction induction card.
• Strong knowledge of colour theory and types of paint finishes.
• Good physical capability to climb ladders, handle heavy tools, and stand for extended durations.
• Additional licenses or tickets such as Elevated Work Platform (EWP) certifications are advantageous.
