About the Role and Organization

This fully remote position is with Northwell Health, the largest not-for-profit healthcare system in the Northeast United States, serving New York and Connecticut. Primary Responsibilities

  • Accurately code all outpatient medical records promptly according to departmental policies.

  • Maintain a minimum 95% accuracy rate for ICD-10-CM diagnostic and CPT-4 procedural coding.
  • Stay up-to-date with all pertinent federal, state, regulatory, and hospital-specific coding regulations.
  • Apply proper coding guidelines to all cases to guarantee the accuracy of selected codes.
  • Use reference materials and conduct research to support coding decisions.
  • Take part in quality improvement and assurance initiatives.
  • Report issues related to software or hardware promptly.
  • Attend educational sessions such as webinars and conferences to maintain and enhance coding certifications.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Associate degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT-4 coding systems, disease pathology, anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Advanced understanding of Evaluation and Management (E/M) Coding guidelines.
  • Between 2 to 4 years of professional medical coding experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience using coding manuals and relevant regulatory websites for coding research.
  • Certification from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), such as CPC, CPC-H, COC, CCS, CCS-P, RHIA, RHIT, or other specialty certifications.
