Overview

The Mill Operator (Flotation) will work under the supervision of the Mill Supervisor, performing varied operational tasks within the milling facility while supporting the mill team.

Company and Location

This position is based at the Keno Hill mine, situated in the Yukon Territory's Keno Hill Silver District, an area known for some of the world’s richest silver deposits. Keno Hill spans 242 square kilometers and includes many mineral sites and former mines. The area is within the traditional lands of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun and is expected to yield about 3 million ounces of silver in 2026. The site is managed by Hecla Mining Company, a historic precious metals producer established in 1891 and headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Primary Duties

  • Operating various machinery including bobcat, mini excavator, wheeled loader, and overhead crane.
  • Managing a combination of process circuits such as crushing, dewatering, grinding, and flotation.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in the mill and yard areas.
  • Executing additional assigned tasks with a focus on safety and professionalism.
  • Actively supporting and promoting an environmentally responsible workplace culture.
  • Advocating and practicing stringent safety standards across operations.
  • Contributing as a dependable team member who supports colleagues.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Between 3 to 5 years of experience in mill operations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
  • Commitment to safe and accountable work conduct.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with coworkers and supervisors.
  • A strong orientation towards health and safety.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow directions accurately.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment screening including drug and alcohol tests, blood lead level checks, and audiogram.
  • A clean driving record as verified by a driver’s abstract.

Safety and Environmental Responsibilities

  • Adhering to all safety, health, and environmental regulations to prevent incidents and injuries.
  • Taking personal responsibility for own health and safety and that of others in the workspace.
  • Maintaining compliance with environmental standards and promptly reporting any spills.
  • Identifying hazards promptly and assisting in their mitigation.
  • Reporting accidents immediately and cooperating fully during investigations.
  • Using and maintaining personal protective equipment diligently.
  • Supporting process improvements and participating in safety initiatives and training.
  • Ensuring equipment is operated within safe limits and standards.
  • Upholding excellent housekeeping standards on site.

Work Conditions

Work will be conducted in an outdoor environment facing variable weather, including snow, ice, and fluctuating temperatures. Potential exposures include wildlife hazards, mechanical risks, toxic substances, vibration, noise, and electrical hazards. The site operates on a fly-in, fly-out basis from a remote mining camp, with rotational shifts of 14 days on followed by 14 days off, including 12-hour rotating day and night shifts. Accommodation and meals are provided during on-site rotations, with travel coordinated from approved transport hubs.

Additional Information

Preference will be given to candidates residing in Yukon, British Columbia, and Alberta, especially those near major transport centers, to facilitate easier travel logistics.
