Mechanical Fitter

Overview

Napier City Council is dedicated to providing consistent and dependable water, wastewater, and stormwater services critical to the community's daily life. The Mechanical Fitter is essential to maintaining the mechanical components that ensure these vital systems function safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance across water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure.
• Diagnose, repair, overhaul, and commission pumps, valves, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical equipment.
• Support installation, fabrication, testing, and commissioning activities associated with capital projects and asset upgrades.
• Identify mechanical faults and propose practical repair or replacement strategies to enhance asset reliability.
• Collaborate with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to achieve safe, efficient, and high-quality results.
• Maintain comprehensive maintenance documentation and contribute to ongoing safety and process improvements within the team.

Candidate Profile

• Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting, Engineering Maintenance, or a related field.
• Proven experience working with pumps, valves, hydraulic systems, and mechanical plant in an industrial setting.
• Strong capabilities in fault diagnosis, welding, and fabrication.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documents accurately.
• Dedicated to health and safety, quality workmanship, and continuous enhancement.
• Excellent organizational aptitude, communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

This is a full-time, permanent position with a work schedule of 42.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, based in Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand. The hourly wage ranges from $42.99 to $44.82 (inclusive of KiwiSaver), with the specific offer reflecting your skills and background.
