Overview
The McKinney-Vento Mentor position entails supporting students identified under the McKinney-Vento Act by enhancing their school attendance and academic achievements. This role focuses particularly on homeless high school students, aiming to reduce dropout risks and promote their educational success.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the District Homeless Education Liaison to assist homeless secondary school students, aiming to curb dropout tendencies and foster academic progression.
- Conduct regular meetings with identified students requiring extra support to set and pursue goals addressing their academic performance, personal challenges, and attendance problems.
- Coordinate with school principals, attendance officers, counselors, teachers, registrars, and special program staff to monitor and support students' attendance and scholastic progress.
- Maintain detailed case notes and record interactions and communication, including referrals to community service resources.
- Engage with external service providers to connect students with appropriate support programs tailored to their individual needs.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Oklahoma Secondary Teaching Certificate.
- Experience working with secondary-level students in a classroom environment.
Additional Information
- This position requires a commitment of 20 flexible hours per week.
