Company Overview

Babcock Power is a global leader specializing in steam generation and energy-related products and services tailored for power generation and processing industries. The company consists of strategically integrated business units, each bringing specialized technologies, extensive experience, and a proven record in creating advanced engineering solutions.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Manager of Simulation Technology (CFD) to oversee a multidisciplinary engineering team dedicated to advancing CFD modeling and simulation technologies for industrial and utility boilers and combustion systems. This role demands both technical expertise in reacting flow simulations using ANSYS CFD or comparable platforms and leadership in managing research and development projects aimed at developing next-generation, cost-effective, low-emissions, and high-efficiency combustion technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and application of CFD models for combustion systems involving low-NOx gaseous, liquid, and pulverized fuel burners in utility and industrial boilers.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development guidance to CFD and simulation engineers.
  • Develop and validate models capturing turbulent reacting flows, species transport, finite rate chemistry, PDF and non-premixed combustion, radiation, and pollutant emissions like NOx and CO.
  • Design mesh strategies, define boundary condition methodologies, and reconcile simulation outcomes with plant field-test data, calibrating models as necessary.
  • Offer technical leadership by reviewing simulation models, assumptions, and results within the team.
  • Manage project timelines, simulation milestones, and resource allocation for awarded contracts.
  • Communicate simulation results effectively to senior leadership and customers.

Candidate Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline; a Ph.D. is preferred.
  • At least fifteen years of industry experience involving reacting flow simulations.
  • Proficient with ANSYS Fluent, ANSYS CFD Post/Prep, or other reputable CFD platforms.
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of turbulence modeling, computational combustion, and heat transfer mechanisms including radiation, with a preference for burner/combustion design experience.
  • Experience analyzing experimental data, test rig studies, or field performance testing.
