The Manager of Security will oversee the daily management of Aero's TSA-sanctioned security program, ensuring complete compliance across both on-demand and public charter flight operations. Managing a fleet of seven or more jets with a maximum takeoff weight above 12,500 lbs, the company adheres to the TSA Twelve-Five Standard Security Program (TFSSP) and operates under DOT/14 CFR Part 380 for public charter service. This position demands implementation, maintenance, and ongoing enhancement of security protocols that include passenger and property screening, controlled access to aircraft and restricted zones, threat response, and staff vetting. The manager also acts as the chief liaison for the TSA and governmental bodies.

Location and Travel

This role is remote but requires candidates to live within an hour's drive of Aero's main hubs (VNY, ASE, OPF, TEB/HPN) and be available for travel to domestic and international stations as necessary.

Key Duties

• Administer and update the TSA-approved TFSSP alongside related directives, ensuring the program remains aligned with evolving regulations for on-demand and Part 380 charter operations.
• Maintain compliance with 49 CFR Part 1544, related TSA mandates for passenger and accessible-property screening, and international aviation security standards such as EASA/EU, UK CAA/DfT, and ICAO Annex 17.
• Serve as the primary TSA contact for inspections, audits, information requests, and managing corrective actions.
• Oversee screening procedures at private terminals and fixed-base operators, making sure personnel and contractors are properly trained and equipped.
• Manage access control to aircraft, restricted areas, and sensitive information, including credential issuance and audits under the TSA ID Media Program.
• Supervise Ground Security Coordinators to ensure their qualification, training, and execution of responsibilities for passenger, baggage, and cargo security.
• Develop and maintain company-wide security training programs for crew, coordinators, staff, and contractors, ensuring continuous updates aligned with threats and regulations.
• Handle personnel vetting processes like Security Threat Assessments and criminal background checks, safeguarding complete security records and training documentation.
• Lead threat and incident responses, including bomb threats, suspicious items, unruly passenger situations, and heightened security alerts.
• Protect Sensitive Security Information by managing access, storage, distribution, and disposal in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Maintain comprehensive security documentation, prepare regulatory reports, and monitor program effectiveness through metrics.
• Conduct internal audits, inspections, and drills to identify and correct security deficiencies and bolster continuous program improvements.
• Collaborate across departments and external partners such as law enforcement and airport authorities to embed security in operational procedures and the guest experience.
• Support emergency preparedness and business continuity related to security events.
• Maintain and update relevant security manuals ensuring alignment with regulations and approved procedures.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship.
• A minimum of five years' experience in aviation security, law enforcement, military security, or regulated transportation-security roles.
• Eligibility to clear and maintain Security Threat Assessments and Criminal History Records Checks.
• Strong experience interfacing with regulatory bodies such as TSA or FAA, particularly during audits and inspections.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to produce procedures and conduct training.
• Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain composure in urgent, high-pressure situations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aviation management, criminal justice, homeland security, or related disciplines, or equivalent professional experience.
• Previous roles as an Aircraft Operator Security Coordinator or Alternate, or in managing security programs for Part 135 or Part 121 operators.
• In-depth knowledge of regulations including 49 CFR Parts 1520, 1540, 1544; TSA TFSSP; and 14 CFR Parts 135 and 380.
• Familiarity with public charter by-the-seat operating models and security screening at private terminals.
• Experience with TSA-approved screening equipment like walk-through metal detectors and handheld devices, as well as screening vendor management.
• Certifications relevant to security or emergency management, such as Certified Member of AAAE.

Work Conditions

This role involves environments such as remote locations, terminals, FBOs, and airport ramps. The position requires availability beyond normal business hours to handle operations and security incidents, with travel obligations. It may also involve standing for long durations and occasional lifting.
