Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the complete import operations lifecycle — including shipment planning, engaging suppliers, freight booking, documentation, customs clearance, and final item delivery.
- Ensure shipments clear customs promptly, minimizing airport or port wait times and avoiding demurrage or storage costs.
- Maintain communication with overseas suppliers, freight forwarders, Customs House Agents, logistics vendors, and internal project teams.
- Track shipment progress proactively to meet agreed delivery timelines.
- Accurately prepare, verify, and submit all required import documentation timely.
- Classify goods appropriately with HS codes and declare customs values abiding by current regulations.
- Manage customs assessments, inspections, questions, and required paperwork with authorities and CHAs.
- Ensure full adherence to legal import frameworks including DGFT, Customs, RBI guidelines.
- Source and negotiate freight rates competitively across multiple providers.
- Periodically benchmark freight costs to secure economical logistics options without sacrificing service quality.
- Build lasting partnerships with logistics vendors to improve commercial conditions and service standards.
- Review and audit freight invoices thoroughly before payments.
- Generate regular reports analysing logistics costs and suggest measures for cost-reduction.
- Coordinate closely with OEMs, engineering, finance, warehouse teams, and vendors.
- Align shipment schedules with project timelines effectively.
- Quickly address and resolve shipment-related issues to minimize operational disruptions.
