About American Data Network

American Data Network (ADN) is a well-established healthcare quality organization with over 30 years of experience, dedicated to assisting hospitals and healthcare clients in enhancing quality, patient safety, and clinical outcomes. ADN fosters values such as integrity, precision, collaboration, and professionalism.

Position Overview

The Level I Trauma Abstractor role involves precise and timely abstraction of trauma data supporting assigned healthcare clients. This opportunity is suited for professionals with recent, hands-on Level I Trauma abstraction expertise who can independently assess clinical charts, adhere to registry standards, and consistently meet deadlines with accuracy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patient medical records to extract data relevant to the Trauma Registry.
  • Accurately apply registry definitions, specifications, inclusion/exclusion rules, and abstraction protocols.
  • Analyze clinical documentation to abstract detailed injury-related information, including injury mechanism, severity, clinical interventions, complications, and outcomes following Level I trauma guidelines.
  • Input comprehensive and precise data into registry databases, Electronic Health Records (EHRs), vendor platforms, or other designated data systems.
  • Maintain exceptional abstraction precision, completeness, and attention to detail.
  • Consistently fulfill assigned productivity targets, weekly progress benchmarks, and internal/client due dates.
  • Engage in quality assurance tasks including feedback, corrections, validation processes, and inter-rater reliability assessments.
  • Communicate professionally with account leaders, team members, and client representatives for clarifications.
  • Uphold confidentiality standards and comply strictly with ADN, client, HIPAA, and data security policies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of two years of recent experience in Level I Trauma Registry abstraction.
  • Completion of current trauma registry and coding education: Trauma Registry Course, AAAM AIS Coding Course, and an ICD-10 coding course completed within the last five years.
  • Capacity to independently abstract Level I Trauma cases using clinical documentation and registry criteria.
  • Strong competence in healthcare quality reporting, registry data abstraction, clinical chart review, and medical record interpretation.
  • Self-driven with ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization skills, and follow-through.
  • Familiarity with multiple EHRs, trauma registry platforms, vendor tools, and data systems as needed.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Contractors must have a secure high-speed internet connection, a PC or laptop, plus at least two monitors.

Preferred Expertise

  • Experience with trauma applications, Level I Trauma reporting tools, or similar data collection software.
  • Background in inter-rater reliability (IRR), quality assurance (QA) reviews, audit validation, or abstraction accuracy assessments.

Hiring Process and Onboarding

Candidates will undergo a preliminary phone screening followed by a trauma-specific abstraction evaluation assessing knowledge of registry criteria, judgment, accuracy, and completion speed.

Note: ADN does not provide Level I Trauma abstraction training; candidates must already have the required registry experience. Post-hire orientation covers ADN procedures, client system navigation, EHR usage, documentation characteristics, and client-specific protocols.

Why Choose This Role?

This role suits experienced Level I Trauma abstractors who prefer independent, flexible, and meaningful work involving registry-based chart review and healthcare quality improvement. ADN supports a knowledgeable, collaborative team culture with opportunities for growth into leadership or expanded quality roles for outstanding performers.
