About GrainCorp Liquid Terminals

GrainCorp Liquid Terminals leads in managing and storing bulk liquids including edible oils, fats, stock feed, chemicals, and have expertise handling flammable and combustible liquids. Positioned strategically around New Zealand's shores, they ensure effective loading/unloading of shipping vessels and bulk transport along with storing and transferring customers' products.

Role Overview

Located in Bluff and reporting to the Terminal Manager, the Lead Terminal Operator is a key team member aiding daily terminal operations. Core duties include stepping in for the Terminal Manager when absent, training new employees, handling loading/unloading of road tankers, delivery trucks, and ships, transferring products between tanks, and conducting safety and compliance checks across the site.

Responsibilities

  • Deputize for Terminal Manager as needed
  • Orient and train new staff and operators
  • Manage loading and unloading of road tankers, delivery trucks, and ships
  • Transfer products between storage tanks
  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure site compliance
  • Clean storage tanks regularly
  • Administer required heating operations during processes
  • Perform tank gauging, ullaging, stock calculations, and stop dips
  • Sample products from tanks and road tankers
  • Ensure quality control for inbound and outbound products
  • Conduct routine laboratory tests on stored products
  • Participate in shipping activities and operations
  • Engage in confined space entries and work at height tasks
  • Maintain general site upkeep
  • Issue permits to contractors on site

Candidate Profile and Experience

Candidates must prioritize safety and have background in senior operator or mechanical roles. Excellence in workplace hygiene and customer service is expected. Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve underpins successful performance. Flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays to align with vessel schedules, is required. Strong organizational and autonomous work capabilities are essential. Communication skills, both written and verbal, must be proficient along with a positive mindset and eagerness to learn.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Forklift license
  • Certified in confined space entry and working at heights
  • Familiarity with computer applications such as Excel, Word, and SAP

Additional Requirements

Applicants must provide evidence of legal work entitlement. Successful applicants will undergo a pre-employment medical examination.
