About the company
Agri-Fencing Taranaki is a family-run fencing business with a future-focused approach, specialising in agricultural and environmental fencing throughout Taranaki. Its projects range from sheep and beef properties to lifestyle blocks, conservation sites, and technically demanding installations. Backed by more than 20 years in the industry, the team is known for strong workmanship, sustainable practices, and the smart use of technology. The company also places real emphasis on developing its people, with mentoring and advancement opportunities for experienced fencers who are ready for greater responsibility. It is proud to uphold the high standard associated with New Zealand fencing expertise.
The role
This full-time, on-site position is for a confident and dependable Lead Fencer who can take charge of jobs, uphold the company’s reputation, and produce durable, high-quality fencing. The role suits someone ready to work with more independence while still benefiting from experienced colleagues and well-established systems. You should already be skilled in fencing and familiar with rural and agricultural fencing methods, while also being interested in learning how to coordinate jobs, guide others, and manage client relationships. The business is open to applicants who are already leading or those who want to grow into a leadership path.
Key responsibilities
- Take the lead on fencing crews and oversee the daily progress of jobs.
- Review site conditions and job requirements to organise an efficient work plan.
- Communicate with customers, suppliers, and subcontracted trades as needed.
- Build a variety of fencing types, including 7-wire batten, electric fencing, post-and-rail, and conservation fencing.
- Use and look after machinery such as tractors, post drivers, and ATVs.
- Support and coach less experienced team members while helping maintain a positive and safety-focused workplace.
- Contribute to quoting, scoping, and materials planning when required.
What the employer is looking for
The ideal candidate will have 4 to 5 years of experience in rural or agricultural fencing and be comfortable working without close supervision. A solid understanding of fence-building principles and quality expectations is important, along with the ability to combine hands-on physical work with clear customer communication. A full driver’s licence is required, and a Class 2 licence is preferred. Reliability, attention to safety, and pride in getting the job right first time are essential. The company is also looking for someone willing to learn business systems and expand their role over time.
Why consider this opportunity
You’ll be based in Taranaki, a lifestyle-friendly region with access to surf, mountains, and a strong outdoor culture. The team is small, supportive, and focused on looking after one another. You’ll have the backing of experienced operators, structured systems, and administrative support so you can concentrate on field work and leadership. There is room to grow into mentoring, management, or even running your own crew. The company also invests in quality equipment, tools, and training, including FCANZ best practices.
Additional details
This is a full-time role offering competitive pay. The employer provides opportunities to build skills in leadership, business operations, and advanced fencing systems, within a family-friendly work environment.
