Position Overview

This is a meaningful 12-month fixed-term opportunity to provide crucial support to survivors navigating the final phases of the National Redress Scheme and the Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme. The role focuses on aiding survivors of institutional child sexual abuse and Stolen Generations in understanding their options, obtaining legal advice, and making informed redress applications.

The lawyer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, including legal, social work, financial counselling, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement teams, ensuring clients receive comprehensive, compassionate, and culturally safe support.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver legal information, advice, and assistance to clients regarding redress scheme applications.
• Work sensitively with individuals experiencing complex, deeply personal issues related to trauma and grief.
• Collaborate with diverse teams to provide holistic and culturally appropriate client support.

Candidate Profile

• Demonstrate empathy, strong communication abilities, and the capacity to foster trust with clients.
• Apply a trauma-informed and culturally safe approach throughout client interactions.
• Possess experience or knowledge in redress processes, personal injury law, human rights, administrative law, community legal services, or First Nations justice issues.
• Commit to justice accessibility and survivor-centered legal practice.
