Junior to Intermediate Architectural Technologist

Role Overview

The Architectural Technologist plays a key role in producing precise technical drawing packages, assisting with building code research, and integrating inputs from various consultants to produce coordinated construction documents. Using Building Information Modelling software such as Revit, this role translates design concepts into detailed and accurate documentation. Intended for professionals with foundational technical capabilities, eagerness to learn, sharp attention to detail, and a collaborative nature, this position supports the drafting, coordination, and technical evolution throughout a project's lifecycle.

Technical Drawing Production

• Prepare segments of Development Permit, Building Permit, and Issued for Construction drawing sets using Revit for both 2D and 3D technical illustrations.
• Produce detailed drafting, annotations, and sheet layouts that align with Ace Architecture’s technical and graphic standards.
• Help create and refine architectural details including wall, roof, and floor assemblies and other building components.
• Support the application and initial research of the Alberta Building Code, especially Parts Three and Nine.
• Incorporate structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing consultants' input into cohesive documentation.
• Assist in compiling technical materials for permit submission across various municipalities.

Construction Administration Support

• Support senior staff by responding to Requests for Information, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing technical site review notes.
• Attend construction site visits with senior team members, documenting findings accurately and professionally.
• Assist in resolving construction challenges by gathering data, making supplemental sketches, and coordinating revisions to drawing sets.
• Maintain organized records of Construction Administration correspondences, reports, and meeting notes.

Design and Schematic Assistance

• Convert early design concepts into preliminary 2D layouts and 3D models.
• Prepare digital and graphic assets such as massing studies, renderings, presentation visuals, and material research.
• Ensure all graphical content adheres to Ace Architecture's design standards for consistent visual quality across platforms.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Diploma in Architectural Technology or equivalent credential.
• Between one and five years of architectural drafting or practical experience.
• Experience or exposure to commercial, multi-family residential, mixed-use, or institutional building projects preferred.
• Basic understanding of wood frame, steel frame, concrete, and hybrid construction methods.
• Proficiency in BIM software, primarily Revit, alongside CAD for 2D drafting.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
• Introductory knowledge of the Alberta Building Code and local bylaws.
• Ability to communicate technical details clearly in drawings, reports, and written documents.

Working Conditions & Travel
