Junior Civil & Structural Engineer

About the Role

SDS Design Engineers is a specialized firm in building design and engineering, offering expertise in geotechnical, water, and civil & structural engineering. With a workforce of over 40 professionals in Ireland and Spain, the company is seeking a Junior Civil and Structural Engineer to join its Castlebar, Co. Mayo office. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and draft detailed drawings, designs, and diagrams
• Develop and perform structural design calculations and concepts
• Collaborate with engineers and architects during design preparation
• Precisely calculate dimensions and allowances for projects
• Update drawings and layouts to reflect revisions and improvements
• Respond proactively to the coordination needs of design teams, clients, and contractors
• Engage with external consultants and clients for project alignment
• Conduct site visits to take measurements as required
• Undertake related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree in civil or structural engineering
• 2 to 5 years of experience working within an engineering design office or related environment
• Exposure to diverse engineering projects is preferred
• Strong familiarity with current Irish Building Regulations
• Proficient knowledge of British and Eurocode design standards for concrete, steel, masonry, and timber
• Expertise in AutoCAD and Revit for producing high-quality technical drawings and designs
• Experience with structural analysis software such as Robot or Staad PRO-QSE is essential
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage tight deadlines, and deliver projects punctually
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Self-driven with meticulous attention to detail and ability to conduct thorough research
