Role Overview
The role of Interaction Designer involves crafting user interaction with digital services to support UK government clients in problem-solving and delivering meaningful public sector value. You will work within an agile, multidisciplinary team to design service components, patterns, and workflows that ensure usability, inclusivity, and accessibility.
Main Responsibilities
- Create designs informed by user needs analysis and organisational goals.
- Assist in evolving design ideas by interpreting user research and evidence.
- Organize and facilitate design workshops with colleagues, users, and stakeholders.
- Ensure that designs align with team objectives and strategic engagement goals.
- Continuously refine designs through iterative research feedback loops.
- Collaborate extensively with researchers, content strategists, accessibility experts, and developers.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience leading interaction design within multidisciplinary teams.
- Expertise in iterative, evidence-led design methodologies.
- Practical experience using GOV.UK Design System or similar design tooling.
- Competency in designing to meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards.
- Proficiency with prototyping across various fidelities, from sketches to coded prototypes.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative design approach.
Desirable Experience
- Previous contributions to the GOV.UK Design System.
- Background in service design or systems thinking.
- Experience in co-design and participatory design techniques.
- Familiarity with GOV.UK Service Standard assessments.
- Experience delivering digital public sector services within UK central government.
Work Location and Pattern
The position is based in Swansea with hybrid working arrangements, typically requiring onsite presence three days per week. This is a permanent role.
