About the Role
The Import & Export Supervisor will oversee all daily functions within Uganda's Import & Export Department. This pivotal position ensures the smooth and timely management of trade and factory imports along with export processes. The role demands enhancing team skills, streamlining workflows, coordinating with various internal and external partners, and maintaining compliance with international trade and customs regulations. As the Uganda factory grows, the Supervisor will contribute critically to expanding departmental capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily activities within the Import & Export Department, ensuring efficient execution of all import and export duties.
- Assign and track departmental tasks to meet business and production schedules.
- Oversee trade and factory import operations as well as export processes seamlessly.
- Drive improvements by designing and refining operational procedures and implementing standardized methods (SOPs).
- Lead and nurture the team through training, guidance, and performance monitoring to build a proficient and cooperative workforce.
- Collaborate effectively with internal teams (Procurement, Finance, Warehouse, Production, Sales) and external entities such as customs, freight forwarders, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure adherence to customs laws and resolve related challenges, including shipment delays and documentation issues.
- Coordinate import/export projects, monitor their progress, manage risks, and support strategic initiatives.
- Assist department leadership with organizational development, policy formulation, and performance reporting.
- Generate reports on shipment statuses, customs compliance, and operation effectiveness, recommending enhancements as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master's degree in International Trade, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Commerce, or a relevant discipline; exceptional practical experience may substitute formal education.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in international trade, logistics, customs, or import/export management.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Experience with African import/export operations preferred; manufacturing or factory import/export background is advantageous.
- In-depth understanding of trade protocols, customs compliance, shipping documentation, and logistic procedures.
- Strong leadership, project management, stakeholder communication, and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP software.
