Role Overview
At the fully operational level, a Human Resources Assistant specialized in Information Systems provides support across multiple HR functions. Tasks at the entry level (GS-04) serve as developmental experience.
Main Duties
- Handling various personnel actions including promotions, separations, benefits elections, pay adjustments, and employee data updates.
- Maintaining, verifying, and extracting data from automated HR systems using reporting tools, identifying errors, and making necessary corrections.
- Responding to telephone, automated, and written inquiries from staff and former/current employees about records, training, benefits, and other HR-related information.
- Providing comprehensive information on Federal Employee Health Benefits (FEHB) and the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), addressing eligibility, enrollment, and fundamental program features.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Applicants must be US citizens and registered with Selective Service if male and born after December 31, 1959.
- Position requires suitable federal employment status and may need security clearance for access to classified information.
- Must pass E-Verify employment verification upon hire.
- At least one year of specialized experience performing progressively responsible clerical or office tasks related to HR functions at a level comparable to the next lower federal grade.
- Alternately, two years of post-high school education can substitute for the specialized experience requirement.
- Volunteer work and combined education and experience may be considered for qualification.
- Applicants with education from foreign institutions must provide equivalency evaluations for the US education system.
Additional Information
- This position is subject to a probationary period of one year.
- Telework options are very limited and contingent on mission and supervisory approval.
- No relocation expenses will be reimbursed.
- Position is non-bargaining unit and non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- No travel requirements.
