Role Summary
This position plays a crucial role in validating enterprise-grade Linux workloads on System Z platforms that underpin mission-critical business functions worldwide. Responsibilities encompass testing and certifying intricate System Z configurations, focusing on Linux on Z (s390x) ecosystems, multisystem and multiLPAR setups, virtualization technologies such as KVM and containers, as well as Linux workload analysis, baselining, deployment, and integration at infrastructure and application layers.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute daily testing operations related to Complex Configuration Linux Test (CCLT) efforts on System Z architectures.
- Design, develop, and implement extensive test strategies ensuring comprehensive validation.
- Lead development and enhancement of test cases, maintaining coverage throughout software releases and system configurations.
- Define and validate Linux workload characterizations and baselines for performance, scalability, and stability.
- Collect and analyze hardware requirements to prepare detailed test plans, test matrices, and strategies.
- Identify testing coverage gaps and ensure completeness across hardware components.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).
- 5 to 8 years of relevant experience.
- In-depth expertise managing Linux deployments, administration, and troubleshooting in enterprise setups (Red Hat, SLES, Ubuntu).
- Proficient in network installation, configuration, and validation.
- Hands-on experience configuring and managing KVM virtual machines.
- Experience with Red Hat OpenShift (OCP) installation, deployment, upgrades, and cluster management.
- Strong knowledge of Kubernetes architecture, workload management, and monitoring.
- Practical skills using Grafana for metrics visualization and dashboard creation.
- Experience collecting and analyzing system/kernel dumps, FFDC, and debugging within Linux and containerized settings.
- Solid understanding of computer architecture including CPU, memory hierarchies, buses, and I/O subsystems.
- Familiarity with hardware protocols: PCIe, USB, Ethernet, SAS/SATA, NVMe, DDR, etc.
- Knowledge of firmware/BIOS, device drivers, and low-level debugging techniques.
- Automation proficiency using scripting languages such as Python, Shell, and Bash for operational tasks and efficiency.
- Ability to automate deployments, monitoring, and workflow operations leveraging scripting or orchestration tools.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working within global teams.
Preferred Experience
- Over 2 years of involvement with Z mainframe systems.
- Familiarity with mainframe operating systems and applications.
- Experience in constructing and executing detailed test plans ensuring coverage based on customer requirements and performing regression testing.
- Competency in hardware troubleshooting.
- Understanding Agile methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to independently conduct testing and debugging activities.
