About the Role

The newly established General Manager, Membership will oversee and expand Fortune's exclusive membership programs aimed at senior executives, entrepreneurs, and business leaders. These premium offerings provide broader access to Fortune’s journalism, community, events, and networks. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the role sits at the nexus of Fortune’s high-touch audience experiences—events, content, and community—and supports the company's consumer revenue growth strategy. The GM will lead the membership P&L, develop product and market strategies, and collaborate across internal teams to craft indispensable membership experiences for influential business figures worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and refine the Fortune membership value proposition, establishing a clear value framework that clarifies member benefits, pricing, and overall value.
  • Execute growth initiatives by assessing the total market potential and scaling membership acquisition.
  • Own and prioritize the membership product roadmap, collaborate with teams to meet platform and technology needs, and plan campaigns that foster momentum and sustained retention.
  • Conduct comprehensive member research and segmentation to deeply understand Fortune's target audience and continuously improve offerings.
  • Manage relationships with executive members by ensuring high service standards, creating escalation protocols, and conducting proactive outreach.
  • Take full ownership of the membership P&L, including revenue targets, acquisition cost management, benefit and operation cost control, and financial performance reporting.
  • Develop and implement member acquisition strategies through direct, event-driven, and partnership channels.
  • Design lifecycle programs to optimize onboarding, engagement, renewals, and win-back efforts, enhancing member lifetime value and reducing churn.
  • Regularly monitor and report key membership performance indicators such as acquisition volume, retention, NPS, revenue per member, and LTV/CAC ratios.
  • Collaborate with Live Media/Events to curate exclusive member event experiences, offering priority access, unique sessions, and specialized community programming at marquee summits.
  • Work with Editorial teams to create member-exclusive content, early access opportunities, and journalist engagement to reinforce membership value.
  • Coordinate with the Consumer Revenue Team to align membership programs with Fortune’s broader subscriptions, balancing upgrade paths and bundling to prevent channel conflicts.
  • Partner with Product and Technology to develop digital infrastructure supporting membership, including portals, benefit delivery, access control, and CRM integration.
  • Establish the membership operations framework, overseeing vendor relations, fulfillment processes, member support, and necessary tooling.
  • Foster a thriving membership community through defining peer connections both online and offline, developing scalable programming to enhance member belonging.
  • Ensure daily member experience quality with swift issue resolution, consistent benefit provision, and premium service standards reflecting the Fortune brand.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Extensive experience (10-15 years) managing scalable membership, subscription, loyalty, or consumer revenue initiatives, preferably in premium media, publishing, events, or content organizations.
  • Proven success in launching or scaling membership or subscription programs from inception to revenue-generating maturity.
  • Strong background in cross-functional collaboration with Events, Editorial, and Product teams within content or live media sectors is a distinct advantage.
  • Previous P&L management or revenue accountability experience at director or vice president level roles.
  • Knowledge of Fortune's target audience—C-suite and senior executives—is highly valued.
  • Fluency in membership economics, including metrics like lifetime value (LTV), customer acquisition cost (CAC), churn rates, average revenue per user (ARPU), and retention strategies.
  • User experience and product sensitivity, able to translate member needs into prioritized roadmaps working alongside engineering and product teams.
  • Strong competency in go-to-market strategy, campaign development for consumer or B2B memberships.
  • Data-driven mindset with ability to set KPIs, build dashboards, and support decision-making through analytics.
  • A passion for community-building and connecting high-performing professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills to clearly present membership strategies and results to senior leadership.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit energized by innovating and relaunching initiatives within a larger organization.
  • Member-centric approach, with commitment to embedding member experience at the center of operations and product decisions.
  • Collaborative and humble attitude, appreciating the importance of cross-department teamwork to succeed.
  • Commercial accountability with comfort in owning and defending performance targets.
