General Labourer

Job Overview

This position, based in Hope River, Prince Edward Island, involves performing a variety of general labor duties at a landfill site, emphasizing safety and efficiency. Tasks cover yard maintenance, equipment fueling, assisting operators, basic vehicle operations, office upkeep, and other management-assigned activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and execute tasks requested by Equipment Operators.
• Refuel vehicles and machinery as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas and perform yard tasks like mowing and litter collection.
• Follow all applicable company and governmental safety standards.
• Carry out office maintenance including painting and janitorial work.
• Manage site traffic direction when required.
• Complete other tasks designated by management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred but not mandatory.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Must satisfy company criteria for safety-sensitive roles.

Skills and Abilities

• Competent reading, writing, basic math, and communication skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good problem-solving capabilities using practical judgment.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Capable of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting outdoors for most of the workday.
• Must use hands, fingers, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and maintain balance effectively.
• Visual acuity including distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment is necessary.
• Regularly lift or move up to 65 pounds manually and push/move up to 100 pounds with help.

Working Environment

• Frequent exposure to loud noise, varying weather conditions, mechanical hazards, chemicals, fumes, and dust.
• Primarily outdoor work (up to full-time).
• Constant interaction with vehicle traffic; typically loud surroundings.
