About Mindrift and the Role
Mindrift seeks skilled developers to join the Tendem project, focusing on building conversational bots integrated with popular messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and Slack. This freelance position, referred to internally as AI Pilot, involves collaborating with Tendem Agents—automated assistants handling routine tasks—while contributing technical bot engineering, conversational design, and quality assurance to create reliable and user-ready bots.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain bots for messaging platforms including WhatsApp Business API/Cloud API, Telegram Bot API, Discord, Slack, and others.
- Design conversational flows, manage dialog states, and implement fallback mechanisms.
- Integrate bots with large language models like OpenAI or Anthropic to enable natural language interactions.
- Connect bots to backend services including databases, CRMs, booking systems, payment services, and other third-party APIs.
- Manage webhooks, handle platform-specific messaging formats such as interactive buttons and media, and respect rate limits.
- Review, refactor, and enhance AI-generated bot code to ensure correctness, reliability, and robust error handling.
- Implement comprehensive logging, monitoring, and recovery processes to maintain bot health in production environments.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in backend development, integration, automation, or bot development fields.
- At least 1 year of practical experience building bots on one or more major messaging platforms (WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, or similar).
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related fields is advantageous.
- Strong proficiency in Python or Node.js for backend bot development.
- Extensive knowledge in RESTful APIs, OAuth, webhooks, and asynchronous request processing.
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases used to manage conversation statuses and user information.
- Familiarity with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) and prompt engineering techniques is highly valued.
- Understanding messaging platform limitations, including message templates and approval processes (e.g., WhatsApp templates).
- Experience deploying and hosting bots using Docker, serverless architectures, VPS, or PaaS solutions.
- Demonstrated attention to detail with commitment to dependable, error-free bot operations.
- Ability to work independently, designing and delivering full-featured bots.
- Portfolio or examples of past chatbot projects are required.
- English language proficiency at upper-intermediate (B2) level or higher is essential.
Work Expectations and Compensation
The project typically requires 10 to 20 hours weekly during active periods, though workload may vary. Payment depends on expertise and contribution pace, with rates up to $60 per hour. Compensation can differ across projects on the platform based on complexity and scope.
