Job description

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated Foundry Operative to be part of our Ballina foundry team. This role involves collaborating with colleagues to maintain a clean working environment and contribute to the manufacturing of the foundry's products. The operative will report directly to the Foundry Supervisor and receive comprehensive training across four key sections of the foundry: Pattern Shop/Stores, Before Cast, Melt/Pour, and After Cast. This cross-functional approach ensures proficiency in all operational areas, with an emphasis on safety and teamwork.

Primary Duties

  • Carry out tasks safely, efficiently, and within company standards.
  • Strategize daily production to achieve optimal output.
  • Follow work instructions meticulously to ensure product quality and customer requirements are met.
  • Create moulds according to the production schedule and prepare them for pouring.
  • Handle the pouring process at correct temperatures and ensure moulds are promptly cleared afterwards.
  • Perform knockout of sand moulds safely and productively.
  • Coordinate priority castings delivery to fettling shop as directed by supervisors.
  • Ensure fettling of castings is done timely to satisfy customer deadlines.
  • Inspect castings for defects and quarantine any defective units.
  • Use various hand and power tools for operational tasks.
  • Operate workshop machinery for basic functions.
  • Perform manual handling and pack and dispatch castings as scheduled.
  • Use fixed and mobile load shifting equipment responsibly.
  • Maintain equipment condition and promptly report any malfunctions.
  • Participate actively in process improvements and safety discussions during toolbox meetings.
  • Respect and care for all plant and equipment.
  • Provide maintenance project support and assist the maintenance technician coordinator when needed.

  • Exemplary safety record and work ethic.
  • Keen to contribute positively to a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation.
  • Possession of a forklift licence is considered advantageous.
