Role Overview

We are seeking a Forensic Technologist for our Toxicology team based in London, Ontario. This full-time contract role (18 months) involves conducting extractions and data analysis from various laboratory tests in line with standard protocols. You will ensure quality controls and performance checks are completed, operate and maintain laboratory instruments, and adhere to company and regulatory standards. The role requires working rotational shifts from Monday to Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., totaling 37.5 hours per week at our onsite location.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct drug extractions using multiple chemical methods.
• Extract data from instruments such as GC/MS, LC/MS/MS, and Headspace GC, review for abnormalities, and conduct necessary repeat or supplementary testing.
• Operate lab equipment, carefully monitor operations, and validate results before passing them to certifying scientists.
• Verify proper sample identification and preparation before processing.
• Maintain chain of custody and ensure accuracy of all documentation.
• Preserve confidentiality of all sensitive data.
• Prepare for accreditation audits and collaborate with inspectors as needed.
• Provide expert testimony in legal settings, when required.
• Perform both qualitative and quantitative analyses adhering to specified criteria.
• Respond professionally and courteously to inquiries or issues.
• Manage supplies ensuring standards and controls are current and in stock.
• Enter analytical results correctly into company databases.
• Accurately pipette samples and handle standards and controls according to protocols.
• Calibrate instruments and perform quality control tasks as prescribed.
• Conduct routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Assist with validation or reverification processes as authorized.
• Document equipment issues and maintain maintenance logs.
• Follow all pre- and post-analytical quality assurance procedures outlined in the QA manual.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
• Minimum of 2 years relevant professional experience.
• Toxicology lab experience is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Capacity to perform accurately under pressure, multitask effectively, and maintain test integrity in a fast-paced setting.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and suggest actionable solutions.
• Intermediate proficiency with MS Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Excellent interpersonal skills fostering collaborative teamwork.
• Self-management and prioritization skills in a results-oriented environment.

Working Environment

• Position requires working in a forensic toxicology laboratory setting.
• Tasks involve standing or sitting with repetitive fine motor hand movements.
• Visual acuity is essential.
• Capability to safely lift up to 45 pounds.
• Exposure to biological hazards, chemical fumes, and ambient noise.

Compensation and Additional Information

The hourly pay rate ranges between $28.00 and $30.50, with the final amount reflecting experience and qualifications. Hiring decisions incorporate multiple factors beyond salary.
