Fire Protection Engineer

Overview

The role of Fire Protection Engineer involves conducting fire protection design analysis and reviews, including determining appropriate sprinkler and alarm systems and equipment selection. This position supports the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is based at Al Udeid Air Base (AUAB), Doha, Qatar.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform fire protection design analyses and maintain compliance with contract requirements.
• Provide expert advice on fire alarm system impairments and conduct analyses as required.
• Participate in preliminary and final acceptance testing for all fire detection systems.
• Prepare and submit comprehensive reports on fire alarm system issues, repairs, and test outcomes.
• Offer professional fire protection engineering expertise in line with contract specifications.

Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in fire protection, mechanical, electrical engineering, or closely related discipline paired with a minimum of five years’ experience in fire protection.
• Registration as a Fire Protection Engineer is preferred.
• Capability to execute detailed fire protection design analyses and review sprinkler/alarm system selections.
• Completion of specified AFIT courses (WENG 400, WENG 519, WMGT 131, WMGT 301, WMGT 417, WMGT 322, WMGT 422, WTSS 200) within the earliest available course offerings post-hire.
• Familiarity with project planning, programming, design review processes, project management, and construction oversight.
• High school diploma or equivalent experience is required.
• Preferred to hold NICET II certification and certification for inspecting and certifying kitchen hoods.
• Must be a United States National (USN) eligible for a Secret US Government Clearance (US citizenship mandatory).
• Possession of a valid state-issued or international driver’s license and passport.
• Proficient English reading and writing skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in diverse teams.
• Strong problem-solving capabilities and sound decision-making.
• Experience with overseas government contracting is preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

• Exposure to heat, smoke, toxic fumes, gases, and fire products.
• Potentially challenging and uncomfortable working conditions, including remote locations and adverse weather.
• Extended working hours may be necessary under hazardous conditions.
