Fire Fighter

Position Summary

The Village of Johnson Creek Fire and EMS Department is seeking a dedicated Fire Fighter. This role responds to fire alarms and various emergency situations to protect lives and property, following department protocols and supervised by Fire Officers. Duties include fire suppression, rescue operations, equipment maintenance, and participating in training exercises.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor communications and promptly respond to fire alarms and emergencies.
• Operate firefighting tools and apparatus including trucks, hoses, ladders, power tools, and protective gear to extinguish fires.
• Direct water or chemical streams appropriately based on fire type and maneuver equipment safely.
• Access upper building levels for rescue or firefighting by climbing ladders and forced entry tools.
• Ventilate structures and protect property from water and smoke damage using appropriate equipment.
• Administer first aid and artificial respiration to injured persons on scene.
• Conduct rescues from fires, accidents, drowning, and assist in medical emergencies, including ambulance driving.
• Maintain communication with supervisors via portable radios during operations.
• Perform upkeep and maintenance of firefighting vehicles, equipment, facilities, and hydrants.
• Engage regularly in training related to firefighting techniques, hydraulics, and pump operation.
• Familiarize with local infrastructures such as floor plans, hydrant locations, and hazardous material storage in coordination with Fire Inspection personnel.
• Assist with post-operation equipment and vehicle maintenance tasks.
• Undertake additional related duties as required by the department.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Comprehensive understanding of firefighting methods, equipment, and safety practices.
• Knowledge of fire prevention measures and relevant laws and regulations governing fire services.
• Awareness of local geography and district layouts.
• Strong ability to comprehend and follow instructions.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks under hazardous conditions and harsh weather.
• Commitment to strict safety procedures while executing duties.

Education & Certifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
• Current, valid State of Wisconsin driver's license required.
• Certification as a Wisconsin Certified Fire Fighter I.
• Valid CPR and Basic First Aid certification.
• Completion of NIMS ICS-100 and ICS-700 courses; willingness to acquire further certifications as needed.

Additional Requirements

• Compliance with the employer’s random drug and alcohol testing policies is essential.
