Role Overview

The Estimator is instrumental in developing competitive and accurate cost proposals that support securing profitable construction projects. This position focuses on assessing tenders, defining scope, and producing detailed budgets and firm-price estimates to ensure effective project delivery and business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze tender documents, drawings, and specifications to establish project scope while identifying risks and opportunities.

  • Conduct site inspections to assess logistical constraints and operational methodologies.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates including conceptual, budgetary, and firm prices covering labor, materials, plant, subcontractor pricing, and methodology-related expenses.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to finalize work programmes, agree on rates, identify suitable work packages, and select subcontractors.
  • Issue enquiries and analyze subcontractor bids, ensuring rigorous comparison and evaluation.
  • Create and maintain bid clarification and risk registers throughout the tender process.
  • Engage cross-functionally with Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental (HSQE), technical, commercial, and operations departments for methodology alignment and risk mitigation.
  • Organize tender launches, mid-bid reviews, settlement discussions, and assist in contract negotiations by providing updated pricing and contract data.
  • Ensure smooth handover of awarded projects to operational delivery teams.
  • Maintain compliance with governance processes including the Gated Lifecycle stage approvals and provide requisite documentation such as offer letters, Bills of Quantities, activity schedules, and clarifications.
  • Keep clear, auditable records of all estimates and underlying assumptions.
  • Develop strong professional relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners to foster business development opportunities.
