Estimator

Role Summary

The Estimator is responsible for producing accurate, realistic, and competitive cost estimates to support the preparation and submission of quotations and tenders based on received enquiries. Prompt attendance to enquiries and use of a proprietary estimation system is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive contract enquiries, evaluate them, and plan pricing actions to meet requested deadlines.
• Clarify scope of enquiries with clients to ensure quote precision aligned with expectations.
• Collaborate with line managers and team members to shape tender strategies.
• Solicit quotations from the supply chain, selecting optimal suppliers and manufacturing locations to achieve best pricing.
• Coordinate with internal colleagues to develop schedules and quality tender submissions as per requirements.
• Evaluate supplier quotes, negotiate costs considering raw materials and manufacturing rates across different economies, and review terms against tender practices.
• Compile detailed tender analysis reports for internal use and client presentations.
• Detail costs thoroughly to facilitate later contract review.
• Analyze and present mark-up figures during tender vetting meetings.
• Ensure completion and approval of tender summary sheets following set procedures.
• Track tenders and quotes, attending client meetings as necessary.
• Thoroughly review enquiry documentation—contracts, specifications, drawings, bills of materials—to identify opportunities, risks, and discrepancies, documenting these properly.
• Participate in hand-over meetings between Estimating, Operational, and Commercial teams, preparing comprehensive information to assist project progression.

Personal Qualities and Experience

• A minimum of 5 years’ estimating experience within the fit-out industry, preferably with exposure to the Qatar market.
• Academic qualifications: B.Tech, B.E., or Diploma.
• Familiarity with the full tender process, including value engineering experience.
• Proficient at analyzing trade comparisons.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Capable of working independently and collaboratively within teams.
• Efficacious time management skills to meet strict deadlines.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in business English, internally and externally.
