Position Overview
We seek motivated entry-level engineers, scientists, chemists, and technicians to assist in the design, development, and implementation of research projects for the U.S. EPA's Office of Research and Development. Our research covers diverse domains including decontamination and consequence management, measurement method validation, emission source characterization, atmospheric sciences, exposure studies, air quality modeling, and operation of specialized laboratories and machine shops.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior professionals in creating and testing new processes or experiments.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, data analysis, and related documentation.
- Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory and field equipment.
- Carry out technical projects under guidance from senior staff.
- Collaborate across teams to develop innovative engineering and scientific solutions.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and company policies in lab and field environments.
- Collect data, conduct tests, and compile findings to contribute to ongoing projects.
- Help prepare project plans, schedules, and materials for execution.
- Present findings and progress updates to leadership or clients with senior staff support.
- Gain practical exposure to project management and technical problem-solving alongside experienced staff.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline.
- Relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
- Strong analytical, mechanical, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm and aptitude for scientific and technical work, mechanical equipment, chemistry, and air quality.
- Hands-on experience in laboratory, technical, or engineering projects, either academically or professionally.
- Preferred experience with mechanical work, lab research, or field science.
- Knowledge of EPA source test procedures and air quality monitoring equipment is advantageous.
- Willingness to travel for field work across the country.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
- Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or equivalent experience with hauling trailers is preferred.
