Job Summary

The Elementary Kitchen Helper supports meal preparation, serving duties, and kitchen cleanliness under the supervision of the Elementary School Kitchen Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with meal preparation including cooking, baking, portioning, and other food prep tasks
• Thoroughly clean and sanitize all utensils, dishes, kitchen appliances, and equipment
• Carry out a variety of food service duties including cashier operations during lunch, supply ordering and storage, and preparing food shipments to other school kitchens
• Serve food to students efficiently and courteously
• Adapt to changing conditions within the kitchen environment while maintaining productivity and fulfilling assigned essential tasks
• Maintain positive interactions with students, school staff, and kitchen supervisors

Qualifications

• High school diploma or its equivalent is required
• Experience with high-volume food preparation and serving is preferred; previous school kitchen work is advantageous
• Must complete a Food Handlers Class within 30 days after hiring
• Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with staff and students
• Strong adherence to work instructions in all foodservice areas, maintaining a constructive attitude
• Ability to reliably report to work on time and communicate promptly if unable to attend

Physical Demands

• Standing, walking, and sitting throughout the work period
• Lifting up to 40 lbs and carrying items for up to 10 feet
• Pushing/pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling as needed
• Requirements include effective speaking, hearing, seeing, depth perception, and color vision
