Role Responsibilities

  • Review electrical drawings and vendor documentation for solar farms and battery storage projects, including managing RFIs.
  • Design and evaluate both preliminary and detailed AC (Low, Medium, High Voltage) and DC electrical systems, such as DC power blocks for photovoltaic systems and medium voltage AC collection systems for PV and wind applications.
  • Create and analyze models for AC substations and collection systems, conducting Load Flow, Short Circuit analyses, DC and AC losses, cable ampacity assessments, and cable sizing for both AC and DC circuits.
  • Calculate and verify sizing criteria for primary power transformers.
  • Develop and review technical specifications and construction documents to establish design and procurement standards for electrical equipment and materials.
  • Perform technical evaluations of proposed equipment to ensure compliance with company, client, and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with designers to prepare and assess construction drawings and documentation for effective communication during electrical installations on site.
  • Provide expert input to project teams on grounding system designs, substation layouts, and medium voltage collection infrastructure.
  • Compile and analyze weekly progress reports on electrical engineering designs to support project management goals.
  • Oversee and guide design tasks executed by internal or external drafting teams to maintain engineering standards.
  • Coordinate with third-party contractors and internal project members to organize and supervise project workflows towards successful completion.
  • Contribute to the preparation of capital, operating, and engineering cost estimates for projects ranging from small to large scale alongside other discipline experts.
  • Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as required.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Between 6 and 15 years of experience specifically as an Electrical Engineer within oil and gas facilities operating in Western Canada.
  • Demonstrated expertise with reviewing drawings for solar farms and battery storage facilities.
  • Mandatory registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
  • Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes, standards, and specifications, including knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and relevant regulations.
  • Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, Visio, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork capabilities, with strong verbal and written communication skills, analytical reasoning, and critical thinking.
  • Proven capacity to manage workload effectively under pressure and comply with strict client-driven deadlines.
