EHSS Specialist

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated EHSS Specialist to join a renowned pharmaceutical multinational company located in Athlone, Ireland. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to health, safety, environment, and security programs within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment encompassing manufacturing, laboratories, warehouses, utilities, and support functions.

Role & Responsibilities

• Assist in establishing and maintaining the site's Health and Safety Management System.
• Perform regular workplace inspections, audits, and compliance checks.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure effective execution of corrective measures.
• Support permit-to-work procedures and oversee contractor safety management.
• Ensure adherence to health and safety legislation as well as company policies.
• Encourage behavioral safety practices and employee involvement initiatives.
• Provide assistance in commissioning and qualification tasks including PSSR and commissioning walkthroughs.
• Contribute to investigations of incidents, near misses, and unsafe situations.
• Help with environmental monitoring and waste management programs.
• Participate in environmental sustainability and improvement projects.
• Engage in regulatory inspections and prepare related reports.
• Create and deliver EHSS inductions and awareness training sessions.
• Contribute to the development of safety campaigns and communication efforts.
• Offer EHSS consultancy to employees, contractors, and project teams.
• Conduct internal EHSS audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
• Support regulatory inspections and corporate-level audits compliance.
• Prepare EHSS documentation, metrics, and performance analysis reports.

Qualifications & Experience

• A degree in Occupational Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of EHSS experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or similarly regulated manufacturing settings.
• Professional certification in Health & Safety.
• Comprehensive understanding of Irish Health & Safety legislation.
• Familiarity with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 standards.
• Experience performing risk assessments and workplace safety inspections.
• Background in conducting incident investigations and facilitating corrective actions.
• Knowledge of EHSS management systems and regulatory compliance frameworks.
• Experience providing EHSS training and promoting employee engagement.
• Involvement in supporting engineering projects and equipment installation.
• Experience managing contractor safety programs.
• Involvement in environmental management system activities.
• Exposure to working within GMP-regulated environments.
• Participation in design reviews, including HAZOPs and HAZIDs.
