Job Overview
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Officer will support the EHS Supervisor in ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations while fostering a secure and regulated work environment at the Burnfoot facility in County Donegal.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and actively engage in the Good Catch program.
- Manage EHS training records, maintaining accuracy and monitoring renewal deadlines.
- Maintain documentation in line with the ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
- Prepare monthly global safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Assist with execution of health and safety policies based on local and national regulations.
- Encourage reporting of Serious Injury and Fatality Potential (SIF-P) incidents.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Perform risk assessments, record outcomes, and recommend improvements.
- Monitor and report on safety performance including incident and accident trends.
- Ensure safety and personal protective equipment is maintained and accessible.
- Support preparation and delivery of employee health and safety training programs.
- Investigate workplace accidents and incidents, compiling reports that suggest preventive measures; maintain accident trend analysis.
- Stay informed on current laws, regulations, and best practices; liaise with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance.
- Assist in developing and enforcing emergency procedures for different scenarios.
- Provide administrative support for safety initiatives including document control and data entry.
- Work collaboratively with department heads to cultivate a culture prioritizing health and safety.
- Perform weekly and monthly inspections of first aid and fire safety equipment.
- Conduct monitoring of air leaks, manage spill kits, and oversee hazardous waste control.
- Administer occupational health surveillance, scheduling appointments and maintaining records, coordinating communications with HR.
- Manage Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) data including updating supplier data sheets, logging information, drafting info sheets, and tracking communication of risk assessments.
- Handle compliance audit checklists: receive, log, and compile statistics.
- Oversee Forklift Truck (FLT) and equipment pre-use inspections, tracking defects and follow-ups.
- Distribute safety memos and other related communications within the company.
Candidate Qualifications
- NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- IOSH membership is preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in EHS roles.
- Demonstrated strong safety leadership and emergency management capabilities.
- Proven skills in critical analysis, planning, and organization.
- Experienced in conducting risk assessments and audits.
- Excellent communication proficiency to engage employees, management, and external authorities effectively, promoting a proactive EHS culture.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to perform well under pressure.
- Sound knowledge of environmental, health, safety, and civil protection legal requirements.
- Familiarity with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards is desirable.
