Role Overview

The Economist – Tariff plays a crucial role in aiding the formulation and execution of strategies relating to sector charges, tariff reforms for customers, and subsidy reforms. This position involves creating and designing all tariff reform initiatives and government presentations while performing in-depth impact assessments regarding subsidies, revenue streams, and expenditure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guarantee that price controls and tariff components reflect the energy sector's principles of sustainability, supply reliability, and affordability, while aligning with the Abu Dhabi Government's social, economic, and environmental goals.
  • Participate in formulating sector fees, customer tariffs, and support mechanisms consistent with best practices and aligned with Abu Dhabi's strategic aims.
  • Forge collaborative links with other governmental bodies to ensure comprehensive understanding and integration of socioeconomic effects from tariff and subsidy reforms into long-range plans.
  • Help the Department of Energy publish projections concerning sector costs, revenue, and subsidies, and supervise adherence to tariff and subsidy reform plans, including assessments of licensed and unlicensed entities.
  • Support economic modeling efforts for Consumer Trends Surveys and develop analytical models required for reporting purposes.

  • Contribute to the price control processes encompassing operational expenses, capital expenditures, setting Weighted Average Cost of Capital (WACC), design of incentives, regulatory guidelines, tariff and subsidy development, and defining costs related to metering services.
  • Lead or assist in economic projects and workstreams as directed by the Pricing and Tariff Section Head or the Economics Affairs Director.
  • Establish strong collaborative relationships across the Department of Energy and other pivotal government departments, such as Finance and Economic Development.
  • Maintain and promote a positive representation of the Department of Energy through ethical and professional conduct.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Economic Policy, or a related field is essential.
