About the Role

The Queensland Shared Services (QSS) is searching for an experienced and customer-focused senior executive to oversee the delivery of high-quality, modern payroll and recruitment administrative services across the Queensland Government. This crucial leadership position holds responsibility for workforce outcomes affecting thousands of government employees statewide.

This role demands a leader with a proven history of managing large teams — typically over 100 personnel — while delivering exceptional services. You will provide visionary leadership to diverse, multi-disciplinary teams, playing a vital role in evolving payroll and recruitment service delivery.

Key duties include guiding and influencing major change efforts, enhancing service performance, and executing comprehensive service transformations. While detailed payroll or HR technical expertise is not required, you will rely on your direct reports who possess these skills. The ideal candidate is an engaging and inclusive leader who combines extensive experience in people management with a strong background in leading organizational change and fostering an environment where employees thrive.

Candidate Profile

You are expected to be a senior leader with demonstrated success managing large service delivery teams through complexity, transformation, and change. Comfortable operating both at a strategic leadership level and engaging hands-on with operational matters as needed.

Key Experience and Skills Required

  • Strategic leadership and oversight of substantial service delivery units comprising 100 or more staff, balancing leadership, service outcomes, risk management, and customer satisfaction.
  • Proven ability to lead large teams and cultivate high-performance conditions.
  • Expertise in driving organizational change, continuous improvement, and innovation within complex environments.
  • Strong capability in forming and sustaining trusted partnerships with senior stakeholders and customers based on collaboration and accountability.
