About Pinterest
Pinterest is a platform that inspires millions globally to discover creative ideas and foster memorable experiences. Our mission is to provide inspiration that empowers people to craft lives they love, driven by the passionate individuals behind our product.
We offer a career path that fosters innovation, personal growth, and respect for diversity, with flexibility to enable top performance. At Pinterest, AI is embedded as a fundamental resource augmenting creativity and impact, and we seek candidates eager to integrate AI into their roles.
Role Overview
The Marketing, Communications and Creative group at Pinterest manages a multifaceted portfolio comprising flagship marketing events, brand campaigns, and international rollouts. The Director for Marketing Project and Program Management is a dual-role leader responsible for both leading the PMO team that ensures governance, accountability, and portfolio oversight for marketing programs, and managing the AI-powered technological tools that underpin advanced project management processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and expand the Marketing PMO team, establishing comprehensive governance frameworks including intake processes, portfolio taxonomy, consistent reporting rhythms, and escalation protocols to consolidate Pinterest's marketing initiatives under unified management.
- Oversee the operational infrastructure for marketing events, ensuring that project managers act as independent custodians of timelines, risk escalation, and blocker resolution, while creative teams retain ownership of strategic and creative execution.
- Maintain the PMO function as an objective governance entity separate from project delivery, fostering a culture where rigor facilitates progress rather than impedes it.
- Partner strategically with business management to prioritize the portfolio by balancing capacity and demand, providing leadership with actionable analyses to inform resource allocation and portfolio trade-offs, while also collaborating closely with Finance.
- Recruit and develop project managers skilled in independent decision-making, stakeholder communication, and managing ambiguity with clear recommendations; define performance benchmarks and continuous improvement cycles for the team.
- Design and own the AI-enabled PMO technology stack encompassing planning, forecasting, automation of scheduling and risk management, capacity modeling, dashboard reporting, and AI-assisted documentation such as briefs and statements of work. Coordinate build/buy/integrate decisions ensuring security, scalability, and integration with existing Pinterest systems.
- Establish stringent quality assurance processes for both human and AI-generated outputs, including review schedules, accuracy standards, and escalation rules, ensuring trustworthy deliverables for senior stakeholders.
- Continuously refine the technology stack in alignment with evolving PMO operational models, explicitly defining where automation or human judgment is essential and holding both accountable.
Candidate Profile
- At least 12 years of project management experience, specifically within marketing, creative, or communications functions.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across creative, marketing, communications, and branding disciplines with reputation for structural clarity and impartiality.
- Demonstrated leadership of PMO functions emphasizing governance neutrality with authority rooted in procedural rigor.
- Expertise in designing and applying hybrid project management methodologies incorporating agile frameworks and long-term project cycles relevant to marketing or media contexts.
- Experience managing portfolios that include large flagship events, regional activations, and international marketing campaigns.
- Strategic project portfolio leadership capabilities including capacity modeling, risk and trade-off communication to senior executives, and partnership with Finance functions.
- Hands-on experience implementing AI-driven workflows and automations in operations, including tool evaluation, deployment decision-making, and accountability for AI-generated outcomes.
- Vendor management skills including performance monitoring, SLA enforcement, and technology acquisition strategies (build, buy, or extend).
- Proven experience building and cultivating project management teams oriented toward a governance model with strong team culture and performance standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
